Bullet Train is a three-quarter brother to unbeaten champion Frankel. He is best known for his exploits in pacesetting for Frankel in many of the great horse's fantastic Group 1 victories, but Bullet Train was more than just a lead horse. He won his only run as a 2YO and at three, at his third start, he won the 2010 G3 Lingfield Derby Trial (2200m).
Bullet Train's final six starts in a 14-start career were at Group 1 level in races won by Frankel and he retires with the boast of having finished ahead of 11 Group 1 winners. Last year, he finished on level terms with Australian colt Helmet when sixth in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes (1600m) at Royal Ascot.
One wonders what sort of record Bullet Train would have developed if he had been campaigned in races to suit his ability.
Interestingly, Peter Moody, after he visited the stables of trainer Sir Henry Cecil, said Bullet Train was a "better type" than Frankel.
